Really Strategies Completes Development of an XML Content Management System for CQ Press Book Content

LANSDALE, PA and WASHINGTON, DC–September 5, 2002–Really Strategies, Inc., an independent content management and publishing solutions firm, recently completed the development of an XML-based content management system for CQ Press, a Washington D.C.-based publisher of government and public policy information. The new content management system will provide CQ Press the ability to manage and deliver web content quickly and efficiently.

CQ Press needs to manage content and meta data from nearly 100 of their previously published books in the system, as well as add new books as they are published. The content of the books is segmented into sections of varying sizes. CQ Press assigns meta data to each section, allowing it to be individually selected for publication to CQ Press web products.

Really Strategies worked with internal CQ Press staff on all phases of the project - requirement analysis, development, testing, and implementation. "After we realized that we needed to assign meta data at different levels of any given document, we decided to develop a custom solution," said Jennifer Ryan, Director of Electronic Development, whose department was responsible for the development of the system within CQ Press. "Both CQ Press and Really Strategies felt a custom solution would be more beneficial and economical in the long run, compared with the commercially available alternatives."

The system developed by CQ Press and Really Strategies stores the XML and meta data in a SQL Server database. Browser-based user interfaces enable web editors to assign meta data, edit documents, and publish documents to multiple web products. "One of the challenges of the project was marrying the hierarchical structure of the XML documents with the relational meta data model. Another was developing user interfaces that are dynamically created based on content rules stored in the database. Dynamic forms will make it easier to add new content rules in the future, while enforcing those CQ Press has already identified," said Barry Bealer, President and CEO of Really Strategies.

"The system can hold any XML content that adheres to our DTD. It allows us to more easily move our existing content to the web as well as provides an environment for us to manage content for our current and future web products. This is invaluable to us as we continue to expand and develop our line of award-winning web sites," adds Ryan.
