“Really Strategies provides us with the third-party expertise we need.”
LANSDALE, Pa.–March 18, 2003–Really Strategies, Inc., an independent content management and publishing solutions firm, led an integrated project team to design and implement a new registration business model for Education Week on the Web, American Education's Online Newspaper of Record. EPE, the publisher of Education Week and Teacher Magazine, sought Really Strategies to help refine their registration strategy as well as implement the needed changes to www.edweek.org.
For more than 5 years, EPE offered its print content for free through its Web site. "We realized we needed to move out of the 'completely free content' Web model, and our first step was to develop a registration-based approach," said Angela Lunter, online business manager for EPE. "To help us flesh out the details, as well as to provide a sounding board, we called Really Strategies, largely because of their Web and publishing industry experience."
Really Strategies and EPE worked together to review the business rationale and drivers for moving to a registration-based Web site to develop a business plan that met the current needs of EPE. Following the development of the business strategy, EPE retained Really Strategies to help implement changes to the Web site.
"EPE had discussed the need to move away from their completely free Web model for some time, and they were convinced that the market was prepared to accept a change. Their timing coincides with the industry in general, with many publishers, especially newspaper publishers, migrating from free content offerings to either registration- or paid-based systems. It's relatively new for everyone, but both EPE and Really Strategies felt we put a good business and technical solution in place," stated Edward Stevenson, Really Strategies' director of content strategies.
Structural, design, and code changes to the site were required to complete this upgrade. In addition to changing existing Web pages and creating registration forms and supporting pages, Really Strategies also guided the development team to upgrade changes to the editorial administration environment used to publish content online.
"This project was a success. We were able to develop sound business principals and make the appropriate changes on the Web site to support them. Really Strategies did an excellent job of marrying our business needs with the technical implementation on the site," added Lunter. "Our registration numbers are promising and we are enthusiastic about the information we have already learned about our site visitors."
