Inside the Brackets:

[IPEDO DYNAMIC INFORMATION SUITE]

In each issue, this section focuses on a different content management-related product, providing an overview of information specifically targeted to publishers.

Ipedo's Dynamic Information Suite 3.2 expands on the company's content management application suite by offering several new impressive features and companion products to enable full-function content storage, management, and delivery.

The core product is the Ipedo XML Database, a centralized repository for storing not only native XML documents, but other content types as well. Like other products in this genre, the XML database provides batch document loading capabilities, schema support, full-text XML searching, and an administrative interface for user access control. In addition, the product can maintain basic version control, check-in/check-out, archiving and rollback functionality.

What makes Ipedo stand out in the native XML database arena is its capability to provide node-level access within the XML document itself, rather than requiring users to perform content searches and updates without accessing the entire document. This can be achieved via XPath or newly-added XQuery interfaces, and provides the means to combine separate instances of content into a new document.

The Dynamic Information Suite makes additional functionality available through integration of companion products, including their Integration Manager, Web Express, and Personalization Manager. The Integration Manager provides centralized visibility to other applications and sources of information within the enterprise. Web Express provides an application framework for web-based applications to access content within the XML Database. Personalization Manager enables the creation of customized views of content to specific users.

Organizations with ample XML content considering a CMS would be wise to include native XML databases within their scope. While most of these solutions do not have the bells and whistles of the "off-the-shelf" CMS products, the price is certainly right and the nature of these component solutions means that you can create more customized solutions without a lot of overhead. With its feature-rich XML Database and optional companion products, Ipedo should be near the top of your list.
