Redesigned Content Browser System:

F. A. Davis Company Publishers

Background: Philadelphia-based and independently owned F. A. Davis Company publishes a wide variety of books and software for the nursing, medicine, and health professions. F.A. Davis uses a homegrown, single-product "Content Browser" to facilitate editorial review and the production process for one of its core print and electronic products. F.A. Davis hired Really Strategies to redesign the Content Browser to better suit its key business needs.

Strategy: Really Strategies and F.A. Davis Company conducted a detailed analysis of the existing system, which Really Strategies used to compose a series of use cases to specify how users should interact with a new system. Really Strategies extracted detailed functional requirements from the analysis phase to architect and develop a completely new system.

Result: Really Strategies created an open, highly scalable system that allows the management of multiple repositories, including non-XML content. Now, many new administrative tasks, such as adding new users and repositories or batch import/export of files, can be handled quickly and within the application by an editor (rather than a database administrator). The new Content Browser allows for integration with other company applications such as the company's digital asset management and syndication software systems.
